The inaugural Food for Fairness Summit took place October 19-21, 2021. This event was sponsored by Yolo Food Bank, Innovation Institute for Food and Health (IIFH), and AIFS.
The summit’s central question was: What is an equitable, sustainable local food system? How can it be achieved? Why does global human health, economic, and social wellbeing and advancement depend upon it, now more than ever?
The summit looked to address, answer and inspire conversations around these questions. Opening remarks were presented by UC Davis Chancellor Gary May and Congressman John Garamendi. AIFS was represented in their own panel on: Artificial Intelligence featuring Ilias Tagkopolous, Mason Earles and Danielle Lemay. Aaron Smith joined a panel on: An Economic Perspective on Local Food Systems, and Ilias Tagkopolous spoke on the opening panel focused on: What Is An Equitable, Sustainable Local Food System?
Tagkopoulos shared that “AIFS is poised to harness the rapidly evolving field of AI to create a better, more equitable food system. Connecting with the community and engaging partners, such as the Yolo Food Bank and IIFH, is essential to our mission to engage consumers and stakeholders alike and pave the way for a better future. The F3 summit is an excellent venue to connect, share, and work towards this vision.”
