In the December, 2022 Applied and Environmental Microbiology ASM Journal AIFS faculty Nitin Nitin and Mason Earles, postdoc researcher Luyao Ma, and former/current grad students Nicharee Wisuthiphaet and Jiyoon Yi published a research paper titled: Accelerating the Detection of Bateria in Food using AI and Optical Imaging. The topic was sharing recent collaborative efforts to advance the detection of bacteria using AI and white light microscopy. The study illustrates the ability of AI to detect and identify bacterial microcolonies of diverse bacteria rapidly. The results have significant potential to impact pathogen and disease detection in the food, environmental and biomedical industries.
