Postdoctoral Researcher
Dr. Luyao Ma is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Science and Technology at Oregon State University. Dr. Ma earned her Bachelor's degree in Food Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2014 and her MSc (2017) and PhD (2021) in Food Science from the University of British Columbia. Prior to joining OSU, she worked as an Assistant Professor at Florida State University (2023-2024) and as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California, Davis (2021-2023). Her work focuses on leveraging machine learning for real-time decision-making and optimization of food processes. Current research areas include: (i) developing smart sensors for rapid and precise detection of foodborne bacteria; (ii) reducing food waste and loss with low-cost approaches; and (iii) understanding and mitigating antimicrobial resistance in food supply chains.
